About this fish
About this fish
Threadfin butterflyfish (Chaetodon auriga) is a butterflyfish species sold for the home saltwater aquarium. Known for their graceful, disc-shaped profile and eye-catching patterning, they’re often best used as the centerpiece fish in a spacious setup with plenty of rock. Because many butterflyfish will pick at corals and small invertebrates, this fish is typically a better fit for fish-only tanks with live rock rather than a reef tank.
Features:
- Attractive, disc-shaped appearance with striking patterning that benefits from a spacious, rock-filled aquascape
- May pick at corals and small invertebrates, making fish-only-with-live-rock setups the most practical option
- Generally settles better when water quality is stable and compatible, peaceful tankmates are chosen
- Best kept on a varied diet that includes frozen mysis, clam, and quality prepared foods
- Offer multiple feedings throughout the day to support nutrition and routine
- When it arrives, acclimate slowly and allow it time to settle in a quiet area of the tank
