SULFATHIAZOLE – Seachem is an aquarium medication based on the antibiotic ingredient sulfathiazole (69%). It’s used to help treat certain aquarium infestations and infections, including some bacterial infections, fungal infections (often secondary), and certain protozoan-related conditions, depending on the diagnosis. In practice, it’s commonly used when fish show signs such as frayed fins, lesions, ulcers, white cottony growths, or other symptoms associated with these infections—ideally after considering that many disease signs can overlap.
Features:
- Targets infections where the cause may include bacteria and/or related conditions, and is commonly used for bacterial, fungal, and protozoan infestations
- Can be used in both freshwater and saltwater, with particular use for common bacterial and fungal infections in freshwater fish
- May be a suitable option when fish are already stressed, since it’s described as among the gentler antibiotics
- For best results, follow the full suggested treatment window and repeat dosing on schedule
- Designed to be removed after treatment with activated filter carbon such as carbon products like MatrixCarbon
