About this fish
About this fish
The Striped Fang Blenny (Meiacanthus lineatus) is a personable blenny made for the home saltwater aquarium. It’s often seen perching on live rock and “watching” activity, which makes it a great choice for reef and fish setups where you want a small, active character. Practically, it contributes to a natural-feeling tank by using rock crevices for shelter and grazing surfaces, while also feeding on meaty foods.
Features:
- Blennies are known for active, bold behavior—commonly perching on rocks and remaining alert in the aquarium
- Generally peaceful toward other fish, making it a good candidate for community tanks
- Fang blennies have a mild venomous bite that can deter predators
- Often benefits from a mature tank and natural algae growth, plus supplemental algae options
- Eats meaty foods in addition to grazing, supporting varied diet routines
- Provide plenty of rockwork with holes or caves for retreat and security
- In many aquariums, keeping only one similar blenny is recommended unless the tank is large
