Seachem Matrix Carbon 100mL (105) is an activated carbon filter media made as spherical beads. It’s designed to improve aquarium water clarity and help remove dissolved organic compounds through adsorption, while also providing some mechanical straining of very small particles. Because it is macroporous, it targets larger organic molecules commonly associated with aquarium organics. Use it in an appropriate filter chamber (or media bag where water flow can contact the beads) to complement biological filtration, especially when you want strong organic removal without packing the media.
Features:
- Activated carbon in spherical bead form helps prevent media from packing, supporting strong water flow through the filter
- High density of macroporous binding sites supports efficient adsorption of aquarium organic matter
- Very low ash content helps minimize impact on pH; MatrixCarbon™ does not raise pH above 7.0 in distilled water
- Low leachable phosphate content is described as among the lowest detectable versus major carbon brands tested
- Designed to be macroporous (bituminous coal-based), supporting removal of larger organic molecules typical of water filtration
- Carbon provides both chemical and limited mechanical filtration by trapping what fits into its very small pores (molecular-size range)
