Seachem Flourish Excel 2L (458) is a bioavailable organic carbon source designed for planted aquariums. Plants need carbon to build the compounds used in photosynthesis, and Excel provides carbon in a form intended for uptake and use without relying only on dissolved CO2. In practice, it can be used as an alternative to CO2 injection, or alongside CO2, depending on the goals of the system. Because Excel works by providing carbon “building blocks” related to photosynthetic intermediates, it may help support plant growth while also offering a way to avoid pushing CO2 levels high enough to contribute to dangerously low pH. It also has iron-reducing properties intended to help keep iron in a more plant-available ferrous form (Fe+2).
