Seachem Cupramine 250mL (566) is a copper-based medication designed to treat external parasites in aquarium fish. It is commonly used as an ectoparasite treatment against organisms associated with diseases such as marine/ freshwater ich (Cryptocaryon/Ichthyophthirius), velvet (Amyloodinium/Piscinoodinium), and related ectoparasites. In practical terms, Cupramine™ helps maintain therapeutic copper exposure during quarantine or treatment so parasites are eradicated on the fish over the recommended course.
Features:
- Helps eradicate ectoparasites of both freshwater and marine fish, including Oodinium, Cryptocaryon, Amyloodinium, and Ichthyophthirius
- Works at low concentration and does not precipitate
- Copper is bound on an amine to reduce toxicity compared with copper sulfate and other forms noted by the manufacturer
- Remains in solution and does not contaminate the filter bed during use
- Removable with chemical filtration, including carbon or Cuprisorb
- Uses ionic (fully charged) copper activity and is described as active at low concentrations compared with some chelates
- Emphasizes maintaining the full copper concentration for the full treatment period to prevent reinfection
