Seachem Ammonia Alert (10) is a color-changing ammonia detector that continuously monitors free ammonia in both marine and freshwater aquariums. It uses a sensor that changes color as free ammonia rises, helping you spot dangerous ammonia conditions before fish show stress—without needing an ammonia test kit, chemicals, or ongoing test procedures.
Features:
- Continuously detects free (toxic) ammonia rather than relying on intermittent spot testing
- Color-coded display changes from yellow to green to blue as free ammonia increases
- Designed to alert you when free ammonia reaches harmful levels; sensitivity is tuned to low concentrations
- Mounts inside the aquarium glass using the included suction cup for convenient, always-on monitoring
- Sensor lasts for over a year before it needs replacement
- Reacts to decreasing ammonia more slowly, providing a realistic picture of recovery over time
Specifications:
- What it measures: Free ammonia (NH3)
- Detection threshold: Detects less than 0.05 mg/L free ammonia
- Color meaning (approx.): ALERT ≈ 0.05 mg/L; ALARM ≈ 0.2 mg/L; TOXIC ≈ 0.5 mg/L (free ammonia)
- Response time: About 15 minutes to detect rising free ammonia
- Response to decreasing ammonia: About 4 hours to go from TOXIC to SAFE after ammonia is removed
- Water types: Marine and freshwater
- Mounting method: Attaches to inside glass with included suction cup
- pH note: Not recommended for use at acid pH
- Replacement cycle: Lasts over a year before sensor needs replacement
