Salifert – Flatworm Exit is a reef aquarium treatment product designed to help control flatworm populations. Flatworms can be a nuisance in marine tanks, and while the product is described as generally safe for fish and invertebrates, it’s important to manage the potential release of flatworm “body juice” when flatworms are removed or die. This makes the treatment most effective when combined with active siphoning and water-quality support using fresh activated carbon. Use it as a targeted, time-managed approach to reduce flatworms and minimize their byproducts after treatment.
Features:
- Generally intended to be safe for fish and invertebrates when used as directed
- Emphasizes removing as many flatworms as possible first via siphoning
- Recommends using fresh activated carbon in a canister to help reduce toxic body-juice buildup
- Encourages proper system preparation (e.g., addressing UV/ozone and carbon positioning) and keeping protein skimming running
- Calls for careful tank monitoring after treatment (at least 6 hours) and readiness for a water change if needed
Specifications:
- Activated carbon (guidance): Use about 1 pound of fresh high-quality carbon per 50 gallons in a canister with sufficient forced flow
- Monitoring window: Monitor the tank for at least 6 hours after treatment
- Water change readiness: Keep at least 25% water ready for a water change if required
- Preparation notes (as provided): Remove/avoid ozone and turn off UV; remove activated carbon initially, then keep the skimmer turned on during the process
