PhosGuard – SeaChem is a water-care additive designed to rapidly remove unwanted phosphate and silicate from aquarium systems. It’s intended for use in both freshwater and marine aquaria, with performance typically better in sea water where the need for phosphate and silicate control is often most apparent. It also functions by exchanging phosphate/silicate onto its highly porous, bead-shaped media, and it is not recommended for phosphate-buffered freshwater setups because it can remove the buffer until the media becomes saturated.
