About this fish
About this fish
The Midas Blenny African is a saltwater blenny for the home aquarium, sold under the scientific name Ecsenius midas. Known for lively, inquisitive behavior, it often perches on the rocks and actively watches the tank. In practical terms, it can help satisfy your display’s algae-grazing needs when kept in a setup with natural rock surfaces to graze, plus supplemental foods to keep it fed once available algae is limited.
Features:
- Personality-driven: commonly perches on rockwork and stays alert throughout the day
- Typically peaceful toward other fish, making it a good choice for many community-style reef and fish tanks
- Grazes algae from live rock; a mature tank with natural growth supports its feeding habits
- Accepts algae sheets and frozen foods as part of a varied diet
- Appreciates plenty of rockwork with holes and tight spaces to retreat into
- Best introduced gradually; acclimate slowly and provide a quiet spot so it can settle in
