It is designed to establish and help maintain biological filtration by supporting beneficial nitrifying and related processes, while also helping reduce the build-up of dissolved and particulate organic material. In practical use, it can be used to promote cleaner-looking water and a more stable aquarium environment in temperate marine systems.
