About this fish
Majestic Angel (Pomacanthus navachus) is a marine angelfish for the home saltwater aquarium, prized for its bold, colorful patterning that can change as it grows. It’s typically kept in tanks with live rock where it can graze for natural foods and forage between meals. In practice, a Majestic Angel is a centerpiece fish, but it can be challenging in reef setups because many angelfish may nip at corals and some invertebrates, so it’s best chosen based on your tank’s livestock and feeding plan.
Features:
- Bold angelfish appearance with patterns that often change as they mature
- Forages and grazes in aquariums with live rock and established rockwork
- Best managed with a varied diet to support overall condition
- Often picks at corals and clam mantles, so reef compatibility should be planned carefully
- Generally suited to keeping only one angelfish unless you have a very large system with space to reduce aggression
- When it arrives, acclimate slowly and let it settle in a calmer area before active feeding
