About this fish
About this fish
Eclipse Hogfish / Coral Hogfish Med is an active hogfish for the home saltwater aquarium, identified as Bodianus mesothorax. As a bold, swimming-focused wrasse-type fish, it’s typically kept as a centerpiece animal in a suitably roomy setup with strong rockwork and open space for daily activity. Practical use: it can help bring personality and movement to the tank, but it should be planned carefully with tankmates because hogfish readily feed on small invertebrates.
Features:
- Active, wrasse-like behavior with bold presence—best appreciated in a tank with plenty of open swimming space
- Rockwork is useful for structure and natural browsing, but the fish also needs room to cruise
- Diet centers on meaty foods; it readily accepts frozen preparations such as mysis, krill, and chopped seafood
- Often eats small crustaceans, snails, and other small invertebrates, so it suits many fish-only setups with live rock
- Give it time to settle: acclimate slowly and provide a quieter area in the aquarium for adjustment
- Because tank setups and compatible tankmates vary, we recommend discussing your specific plan before ordering
Specifications:
- Scientific name (verified): Bodianus mesothorax

- Temperament: Active and bold

- Feeding notes: May eat small crustaceans, snails, and other small invertebrates
- Placement note: Provide a quiet spot to help it settle when it arrives
