Afterburner Chalice

About this coral

Afterburner Chalice is an LPS (large polyp stony) coral sold under a chalice label, appreciated for its “eye” patterning and distinctive appearance. In a reef aquarium, it’s typically kept as a centerpiece coral: placed where its fleshy polyps can extend comfortably, it becomes a visual focal point while still benefiting from stable water conditions common to LPS corals.

Features:

• Prized chalice coral look, often recognized by prominent “eyes” on the polyp surface
• LPS form factor makes it a good candidate for mid-to-bottom reef placement where you can observe polyp extension
• Generally suited to moderate, gentle circulation that helps keep the tissue clean without blasting it
• Benefits from stable, reef-style water chemistry (including calcium, alkalinity, and magnesium) rather than frequent swings
• Works as a hardy-feeling reef centerpiece when provided appropriate light and flow for LPS corals
• A reef-safe coral choice for mixed aquariums, since chalice corals are typically not known as aggressive swimmers or predators
• Helps add texture and depth to hardscape with its attached, rock-growing growth habit
