About this coral
About this coral
Watermelon Rasta Zoas are live zoanthid polyps commonly kept on reef aquascapes for their bright, clustered look. As zoanthids, they’re colonial soft corals that typically photosynthesize and also benefit from targetable water-borne and particulate foods. In practical terms, they’re a popular “fill-in” coral for adding color and texture to a saltwater tank while creating a stable, rock-attached colony over time.
Features:
- Colonial polyps that form dense, attractive clusters on rock or frag plugs
- Adds color and movement to the reef under normal aquarium lighting
- Zoanthids are generally hardy when kept in stable, clean saltwater conditions
- Benefits from moderate lighting and moderate, indirect water flow to support polyp expansion
- Helps round out a mixed reef display alongside other soft and hard corals
Specifications:
- Group: Zoanthids (Zoanthus-type reef polyps)
- Care level (general guidance): Beginner to intermediate (best results with stable water quality)
- Lighting (general guidance): Moderate light
- Water flow (general guidance): Moderate, indirect flow
- Placement (general guidance): Securely on rock/plug in the display area where polyps won’t be blasted or buried
- Diet (general guidance): Photosynthetic; may also benefit from small particulate foods and dissolved organics
- Temperature (general guidance): Approximately 72–78°F (22–26°C)
- Salinity (general guidance): Reef salinity, typically around 1.025–1.026
