About this coral

About this coral

Ultra Pumpkin Lobo is a LPS “lobo” brain coral (genus Lobophyllia) sold for its fleshy, colorful appearance and popular rock/low-mid placement in reef aquariums. Like other Lobophyllia, it’s both photosynthetic and benefits from occasional meaty feeding, making it a good choice for aquarists who want an LPS coral with nighttime feeding behavior and a stable, reef-style setup.

Features:

  • Lobophyllia (lobo) corals are fleshy LPS that can extend feeding tentacles after lights out.
  • Works well in low-to-moderate light setups; acclimate gradually to avoid light shock.
  • Choose low-to-moderate, stable water flow to help the coral expand normally and capture food.
  • Place on a flat, stable surface and give it clearance, since nearby contact or “falls” can damage tissue; lobos may also have sweeper capabilities.
  • Provides practical value as both an attractive display coral and an aquarium centerpiece for periodic target/spot feeding with meaty foods.
  • Use reef-appropriate water chemistry and keep parameters stable to support skeletal growth and overall health.

Specifications:

  • Care level (general guidance): Moderate
  • Tank temperature: 73–84°F (22–29°C)
  • pH: 8.1–8.4
  • Alkalinity / carbonate hardness: 8–12 dKH
  • Salinity: 35 g/L (specific gravity 1.024–1.026)
  • Calcium: 400+ ppm
  • Magnesium: 1,300 ppm
  • Lighting (general guidance): Low-to-moderate (example PAR range: 80–120)
  • Water flow (general guidance): Low-to-moderate; excessive flow may cause retracted polyps or exposed skeleton (example guidance: ~20–40x turnover)
  • Diet / feeding (general guidance): Photosynthetic; benefits from small, meaty foods such as mysis and other small meaty foods, ideally after lights out
