About this fish
About this fish
Mozambique/Mimic Fang Blenny is a blenny for the home saltwater aquarium (Meiacanthus mossambicus, when verified). It’s a personable rock-dweller that often perches in view and actively watches what’s happening in your tank. In a reef-style setup, it can also use the rock for grazing, while still benefiting from regular meaty feedings to match its typical fang blenny diet. Practical use: adding one to a peaceful, rockwork-rich marine aquarium can bring constant movement and natural browsing behavior to the display.
Features:
- Displays lots of personality, commonly perching on rocks and observing activity in the tank
- Generally peaceful toward other fish, making it a good candidate for community-style setups
- Has a mild venomous bite, which helps deter predators (handle with care and avoid mixing too aggressively with incompatible tankmates)
- Uses rockwork for shelter, so provide plenty of holes/crevices for retreating
- Benefits from a mature tank with natural growth; it may graze algae from rocks in addition to prepared foods
- Typically does best with meaty foods as its main diet; frozen foods are commonly used
- When introduced, acclimate slowly and give it a quiet spot to settle in
