MetaSorb UHC – Two Little Fishies is filter media designed to help control heavy metals in aquarium water. It uses patented high-capacity polymers developed for the US Environmental Protection Agency’s Superfund Program. The media is insoluble and intended to rapidly bind and permanently remove metals from both fresh and saltwater, supporting water-quality recovery when metal exposure is suspected (for example from source water, foods, salt mixes, or corroding equipment). In practice, it’s used as a contact media inside filter flow so the water passes through the included polymer bag.
Features:
- Made from patented high-capacity polymers that bind and permanently remove metals from fresh and saltwater
- Insoluble and described as nontoxic for use in aquarium filtration
- Comes as a fine powder packaged in an easy-to-locate small cloth media bag
- Works by placing the bag in filter flow areas such as canister filters, hang-on-the-back power filters, or sump/filter chambers
- Designed for water pre-treatment (including newly mixed artificial seawater) and for reducing dissolved metals such as copper medications and metals leached from corroding equipment
- After a period of use, it can be removed, dried, and stored for later use or discarded; the media may be reused several times
Specifications:
- Form: Fine powder in a cloth media bag
- Use in filtration: Canister filters, hang-on-the-back power filters, sump/filter chamber flow-through sections
- Recommended aquarium volume range (pouch design): 1–250 gallons or 500–800 gallons (pouch size dependent)
- Metal removal capacity (pouch design): Up to 80 ppm for 250 gallons; up to 120 ppm for 500 gallons
- Patents/technology: Covered by US Patent 7,964,688 (and other foreign patents pending) for MetaSorb and Chelok® technology; manufactured in the USA and licensed to Two Little Fishies by Periodic Products, Inc.
