About this fish
McCoskers Flasher Wrasse Male is a saltwater wrasse for the home aquarium, sold as Paracheilinus mccoskeri. It’s a highly active, colorful fish that spends much of the day cruising and displaying around the rockwork, making it a striking choice for well-established reef-style tanks. In practice, it’s commonly kept to add movement and behavior to the display and to help with some pest control, since many wrasses will pick at small invertebrates such as flatworms and bristle worms.
Features:
- Active swimmer that spends time navigating and displaying around the rockwork
- Often considered reef safe, with behavior that can help reduce certain small pests
- Responds well to frequent feeding with meaty foods
- Uses natural night behaviors such as burying in sand or hiding in a mucus cocoon
- Benefits from a sand bed, plus plenty of rockwork for visual cover
- Needs a tight-fitting lid because wrasses are strong jumpers
- Acclimates best when introduced slowly and given a quiet place to settle in
