About this fish
About this fish
Linear Blenny is a saltwater fish for the home aquarium, sold under the scientific name Ecsenius lineatus. Known for active, curious behavior, this blenny typically perches on live rock and spends its time exploring its surroundings while grazing for natural food. In practice, it’s a good choice when you already have (or plan to maintain) a rock-based setup with visible algae growth and you want a personable, mostly peaceful fish to watch day to day.
Features:
- Often displays lots of personality, perching and watching tank activity
- Generally peaceful toward other fish in a community setting
- Typically grazes algae from the rocks, especially in a mature tank with natural growth
- Appreciates added algae sources like algae sheets and can also be offered frozen foods
- Provide plenty of rockwork with holes and retreat spaces for security
- Acclimate slowly when it arrives and allow it a quiet place to settle
- For best results, keep only one of this type unless you have a large tank and appropriate space
Specifications:
- Scientific name: Ecsenius lineatus
- Care level: Generally hardy
- Temperament: Peaceful toward other fish
- Typical placement: Rocky areas where it can perch and graze; with caves/holes to retreat into
- Diet (general guidance): Graze algae from live rock; supplement with algae sheets and frozen foods (meaty foods may be better suited to fang-type blennies)
