About this fish
About this fish
Lavender Tang Med is an aquarium tang for a home saltwater reef or fish-only setup. The verified scientific name for this fish is Acanthurus nigrofuscus. Tangs are active swimmers that graze algae throughout the day, helping you keep up with an algae-friendly routine while adding an energetic, reef-center presence to your aquarium.
Features:
- Active, day-long algae grazer that benefits from consistent feeding of seaweed and algae-based foods
- Known for bold, visible presence and frequent swimming—plan open space so it can move comfortably
- Sharp spine near the tail, so handle with care and use caution when transferring or rearranging rockwork
- Can be territorial toward other tangs; choose compatible tankmates and introduce thoughtfully
- Generally reef safe with corals, making it a common option for mixed reef displays
- Provide a slow acclimation and a calm settling area so the tang can adjust to your tank
- Consistent diet variety (algae sheets/seaweed plus frozen and pellet foods) supports everyday grazing behavior
Specifications:
- Scientific name (verified): Acanthurus nigrofuscus

- Care level: Moderate (active swimmer; needs regular feeding and tank space)
