About this fish
About this fish
Foxface; Yellow – Siganus vulpinus is a yellow rabbitfish/foxface (family Siganidae) for saltwater aquariums. It’s a grazing, herbivorous fish commonly added to help manage nuisance algae and to add an active, reef-aquarium look. In practical setups, plan for steady long-term feeding with quality herbivore foods and a tank built around open swimming space plus rockwork for grazing and cover.
Features:
- Herbivore algae grazer that typically benefits from regular feeding of seaweed-based foods and high-quality herbivore preparations
- Active, “foraging” behavior: spends time grazing on algae/foods and moving through the rockwork
- Peaceful temperament overall, though individual fish can show territorial behavior—especially as they mature
- Reef-aquarium friendly by diet (herbivore-focused), but you should avoid assuming it will ignore all tank life; provide plenty of appropriate plant matter
- Venomous dorsal/anal spines mean careful netting and handling are important for aquarists
- Best suited to established marine tanks with stable parameters and consistent feeding routines
