ESV B-Ionic Nitrate 32oz is a concentrated nitrate supplement formulated as a highly purified calcium nitrate solution. It is designed to help aquarium keepers raise and maintain nitrate levels slightly above natural reef levels for potential benefits to coral health and coloration. In practice, nitrate supplementation can also help compensate for the reduced supply of planktonic food organisms and particulate organic nitrogen that corals would encounter in the wild. As nitrate is biologically assimilated and denitrified, it is converted into carbonate alkalinity, so there is no accumulation of sodium or potassium from this product. In well-established systems, higher nitrate can also support organic breakdown and help reduce the risk of hydrogen sulfide formation in anoxic/anaerobic areas of rock and sand.
