About this coral
About this coral
Candlelight Acropora is an SPS (small polyp stony) coral in the genus Acropora, sold as an aquacultured reef coral for display in established saltwater reef aquariums. It’s commonly used to add fast-growing, branching reef structure and a bright, “glowing” look under strong lighting. In practice, Candlelight Acropora is best for hobbyists who can keep reef water chemistry stable and provide strong, directional water movement and high-intensity lighting typical for SPS corals.
Features:
- SPS Acropora form branching growth patterns that help create a reef-like centerpiece in SPS aquascapes
- Needs strong lighting to support its photosynthetic needs
- Benefits from high, turbulent flow to help keep tissue clean and promote effective gas exchange
- Performs best when water parameters remain stable rather than frequently changing
- Best placed where it can receive strong light and flow without being blasted directly against by the strongest current
- Typically used in mixed SPS systems where other corals won’t overgrow it and where flow can be maintained consistently
Specifications:
- Coral group: SPS coral (Acropora spp.)
- Care level: Intermediate to advanced (SPS stability required)
- Lighting: Strong reef lighting (high PAR typical for SPS)
- Water flow: High, turbulent flow (gentle blast can work; avoid stagnant areas)
- Water stability: Stable conditions recommended
- Temperature: Typical tropical reef range (about 72–78°F / 22–26°C)
- Salinity: Typical reef salinity (about 1.024–1.026 SG)
- pH: Typical reef aquarium range (about 7.8–8.4)
- Alkalinity (dKH): Typical SPS reef targets (about 7–9 dKH)
- Calcium: Typical SPS reef targets (about 400–450 ppm)
- Magnesium: Typical SPS reef targets (about 1250–1350 ppm)
- Placement: In the light/flow zone with enough space to grow and avoid direct tissue contact with other corals
