About this coral
About this coral
Avocado Frogspawn is an LPS coral in the Euphyllia group, sold under that common “frogspawn” name for its distinctive clustered polyp structure. In a reef aquarium, it’s used as a centerpiece coral and provides movement as its tentacles extend under suitable lighting and water movement.
Features:
- Euphyllia-style frogspawn generally does best under moderate lighting, helping its polyps extend without excessive glare
- A medium flow is typically suitable, as it encourages natural polyp movement without blasting the tissue
- Best viewed on the aquarium’s scape where its tentacles can fully expand and sway with the current
- Like many LPS corals, it can respond well to occasional feeding with suitably sized meaty foods
- Stable water chemistry supports long-term health for LPS corals, including calcium and alkalinity availability
- Provide ample space around the coral since LPS tissue can be sensitive to physical contact and competition
- Aim for consistent conditions during acclimation to reduce stress on extended polyps
