About this coral
About this coral
ASD Fruit Salad Chalice is an LPS (large polyp stony) coral sold under the shop name “ASD Fruit Salad Chalice.” Chalice corals are appreciated for their distinctive “eyes” and patterned appearance, and they’re commonly used in reef aquariums as a colorful centerpiece coral. As a photosynthetic LPS, it generally does best when placed in stable reef conditions with appropriate light and gentle water movement so the tissue can extend normally.
Features:
- Prized appearance: chalice corals are known for their unique eyes and striking coloration
- LPS coral form makes it a popular focal point in reef layouts
- Typically benefits from reef lighting that supports photosynthesis (generally moderate light for chalice-style LPS)
- Prefers gentle, indirect water flow to help keep detritus from settling on the polyps
- Placement in a stable spot helps reduce stress from frequent changes in flow and lighting
- Often does best with a reef-appropriate feeding routine, with occasional supplement feeding in addition to light
- As with most captive corals, it’s important to acclimate gradually to new light and tank conditions
Specifications:
- Care level (general): Moderate (typical for LPS corals)
- Temperament: Sessile reef coral; does not sting like some invertebrates, but space should be allowed for growth
- Lighting (general guidance): Moderate light (often stronger than very low light, but adjusted to the individual specimen)
- Water flow (general guidance): Gentle to moderate, indirect flow
- Placement (general guidance): Securely attach to rock/sand with stable conditions; avoid direct blasting flow and excessive detritus buildup
- Diet (general guidance): Photosynthetic; may also benefit from occasional meaty coral foods as desired by the aquarist
- Temperature: About 24–26°C (75–79°F)
- Salinity: Reef salinity around 1.023–1.026 SG
- pH: About 8.1–8.4
- Alkalinity: About 7–11 dKH
- Calcium: About 380–450 ppm
- Magnesium: About 1250–1350 ppm
