About this fish

About this fish

Yellow Tail Tamarin Wrasse (No Guarantee) is a saltwater wrasse sold as Anampses meleagrides. In the aquarium, tamarin wrasses are best kept as active, mid-to-upper swimmers that help add natural grazing and predatory behavior as they hunt for meaty foods. This species is commonly used in reef-capable setups when compatible, and it can also be a striking centerpiece fish for tanks with stable water quality and plenty of swimming space.

Features:

  • Active, fast-swimming wrasse that benefits from open swimming room and live rock for shelter
  • Carnivorous feeder; does best when offered a varied diet of meaty foods
  • Often territorial with other wrasses; plan stocking carefully to reduce competition
  • Usually most comfortable in established, stable aquariums with good filtration and consistent parameters
  • Can be sensitive to abrupt water-quality changes, so gradual acclimation is important
  • May pick at small invertebrates; reef compatibility depends on the specific tank and tankmates

Specifications:

  • Scientific name: Anampses meleagrides
  • Care level (general): Advanced (sensitive to stability and diet readiness)
  • Temperament (general): Active; can show territorial behavior, especially toward other wrasses
  • Diet: Carnivorous, meaty foods (e.g., mysis, brine/other prepared frozen marine foods, and similar options suitable for wrasses)
  • Placement: Mid to upper water column
  • Temperature: ~24–26 °C (typical marine range)
  • Salinity: ~1.020–1.025 SG (typical marine reef range)
  • pH: ~8.1–8.4 (typical marine reef range)
  • General reef parameters: Target stable, well-buffered conditions (alkalinity, calcium, and magnesium aligned to a standard reef-keeping regime)
