About this fish
About this fish
Vanderbilt Chromis Africa is a small marine reef fish sold under the common name Vanderbilt Chromis. In previous shop notes it’s listed as Chromis vanderbilti. This species is typically kept for its peaceful, active schooling behavior and its ability to add movement in the mid-water of a reef aquarium. It’s also commonly used by hobbyists who want a hardy, group-friendly “shoaling” fish that readily feeds on appropriate prepared foods when acclimated.
Features:
- Peaceful community temperament when kept with other similarly sized, non-aggressive tankmates
- Best viewed in a group; chromis species often display more natural schooling behavior with multiple individuals
- Active swimmer that spends much of its time in the mid-water column
- Usually accepts a mix of marine-based prepared foods and appropriately sized meaty foods after acclimation
- Tends to do best in stable, well-filtered saltwater with consistent water quality
- Works well in established reef tanks with live rock for cover and visual structure
