About this fish
About this fish
Tobacco Basslet Medium is a special order marine basslet fish sold under the name Serranus tabacarius. In an aquarium, this type of basslet is typically used as a visually interesting, rock-dwelling carnivore that helps round out a reef-style fish community, provided the tank offers plenty of structure for swimming space and retreat. Because the shop listing is focused on the fish’s common name and medium size category, the practical approach is to plan for a meat-eating fish that will use live rock and caves as part of its daily routine.
Features:
- Uses live rock and aquascape for shelter and natural-looking movement throughout the tank
- Best suited to aquariums prepared for a carnivorous diet (meaty foods rather than algae-based diets)
- Can be a good choice for reef-style setups when tankmates are chosen with care
- Likely to establish routines around feeding times and favored hiding spots
- Ideal as a “watchable” fish for aquarists who enjoy observing how basslets hunt and pick through food
Specifications:
- Scientific name: Serranus tabacarius
- Product category: Special Order Fish
- Group / diet: Marine carnivorous basslet (meaty foods)
