About this fish
About this fish
Melanurus Wrasse is a saltwater wrasse for the home aquarium (Halichoeres melanurus). It’s an active, rock-cruising fish that can add constant movement and personality to a display tank. In many home saltwater setups, wrasses like this are also valued for their tendency to help with certain aquarium pests, making them a practical choice for aquarists building a lively, natural-looking reef rockscape.
Features:
- Active and alert—typically cruises and forages through the rockwork throughout the day
- Often considered reef-compatible by many aquarists; generally known for tolerating common tank life in many setups
- May help control some tank pests such as flatworms and bristle worms (results vary by system)
- Appreciates a sand bed, as wrasses often bury in the sand or hide in a mucus cocoon at night
- Strong jumpers—use a tight-fitting lid or screen to help prevent escapes
- Best acclimated slowly when it arrives, with a quiet place to settle in before introducing it to the full tank routine
