About this fish
Leopard Wrasse is a saltwater wrasse aquarium fish. Its scientific name, Macropharyngodon meleagris, identifies a wrasse commonly kept for its active, rockwork-cruising personality and typically colorful appearance. In a home reef or fish tank, it can add constant movement and may help control certain aquarium pests such as flatworms and bristle worms. Like many wrasses, it benefits from tank design and feeding routines that support normal grazing/foraging behavior and safe nighttime resting.
Features:
- Active, colorful wrasse that cruises and explores live rock throughout the day
- Often considered reef compatible, while still naturally foraging on pests such as flatworms and bristle worms
- Typically benefits from a sand bed, since many wrasses bury in the sand or hide in a mucus cocoon at night
- Needs a tight-fitting lid because wrasses are strong jumpers
- Does best with slow acclimation and a quiet settling spot when first introduced
- Eats common frozen and prepared foods such as mysis, brine shrimp, and quality pellets
