About this fish
About this fish
White Spot Dragon Eel is a marine eel for the home saltwater aquarium. Like many eels, it’s a dramatic predator that spends much of its time tucked into the rockwork, with only its head visible. In practice, this makes it ideal for aquariums built around live rock structures, where it can claim a cave and hunt from ambush.
Features:
- Spends most of the day in the rockwork with only its head showing, giving a natural, cave-dwelling look
- Does best in a large, mature aquarium with plenty of caves and secure hiding spaces
- Feeds readily on meaty foods such as frozen silversides, squid, and shrimp
- May eat small fish and crustaceans, so plan tankmates carefully
- Known escape artists—cover every gap in the lid to help prevent wandering
- Arrives as a new animal that should be acclimated slowly and given a quiet place to settle in
Specifications:
- Group: Marine eel (predatory fish)
- Typical placement: In and among rockwork caves; head out of hiding
- Tank setup: Large, mature tank with plenty of caves and secure rock structure
- Diet: Meaty foods such as frozen silversides, squid, and shrimp
- Tankmate compatibility: Choose tankmates too large to swallow; avoid small fish and crustaceans
- Lid/escape prevention: Cover every gap in the lid; use a secure cover
- Acclimation: Acclimate slowly on arrival and provide a quiet settling spot
