Seachem Reef Buffer 500g (673) is a saltwater aquarium buffering additive designed to raise pH while also supporting carbonate alkalinity. In reef aquariums, ongoing biological activity can push pH downward; this product helps resist that change by using a buffering system intended for saltwater reef conditions. Used as directed, it is formulated to bring a reef system up to about pH 8.3 without an undue risk of overshooting to a dangerous level.
Features:
- Helps raise pH in reef aquariums and buffer against pH swings.
- Raises pH and carbonate alkalinity together, supporting stable reef chemistry.
- Uses a blend of carbonate and bicarbonate salts rather than sodium bicarbonate alone.
- Designed around a higher buffering pK (about 8.6) for improved stability in reef systems with significant bioload.
- Buffering pK is intended to account for the greater tendency of reef systems to drive pH downward compared with non-reef setups.
- Aims to provide more reliable pH stability when routine reef biological acids reduce pH.
