Seachem Flourish Excel 50mL (454) is a bioavailable organic carbon source designed for planted aquariums. Plants need carbon for photosynthesis, and in addition to carbon supplied by CO2 gas, this product provides a different route: it introduces bioavailable organic carbon in the form of compounds similar to photosynthetic intermediates. In practice, Flourish Excel™ can be used as an alternative to CO2 injection or in addition to it, including situations where adding more CO2 could contribute to dangerously low pH levels. It’s also marketed to support iron availability by promoting the ferrous state of iron, which plants can utilize more readily than the ferric form.
