About this fish
About this fish
Bicolor Blenny is a saltwater blenny for the home aquarium, commonly identified as Ecsenius bicolor. In a reef-style setup, this type of blenny is valued for its active behavior—perching on live rock, exploring holes and ledges, and steadily grazing algae. With the right tank structure and routine feeding, it can be a great addition for aquarists who enjoy fish with lots of personality.
Features:
- Blenny behavior: perches on rocks and watches tank activity throughout the day
- Generally hardy and often peaceful toward other fish when kept with compatible tankmates
- Helps utilize natural algae growth in a mature tank, especially on well-established rock
- Eats algae from rock; also benefits from supplemental offerings like algae sheets and frozen foods
- Provide plenty of rockwork with holes/retreats so it can feel secure
- Plan grouping carefully—many blennies do best when you keep only one in the tank unless it’s large enough to disperse territories
- Acclimate slowly when it arrives and give it a quiet place to settle in
