About this fish
About this fish
Floral Blenny is a saltwater blenny (Petroscirtes mitratus) for the home aquarium. It’s a lively, rock-dwelling fish that’s often seen perching and watching tank activity, making it a popular choice for reef and fish-only setups. In practical terms, it helps make use of rock-based feeding opportunities (algae and grazing) and can also take prepared foods, especially when offered alongside natural tank growth.
Features:
- Blennies are full of personality and commonly perch on rocks while actively observing the tank
- Generally hardy and typically peaceful toward other fish when kept in an appropriate setup
- Many blennies graze algae from the rocks; a mature tank with natural growth supports more natural feeding
- Algae sheets and frozen foods can help round out the diet
- Provide plenty of rockwork with holes or caves for retreat and comfort
- Give the fish a slow acclimation and a quiet spot to settle in once it arrives
- Consider territorial behavior: keep only one of a kind unless your tank is large enough to reduce direct competition
