About this fish
About this fish
The Regal Angel Yellow Belly is a marine angelfish from the genus Pygoplites (commonly referred to as the Regal angelfish) kept for its striking, high-contrast look and active, display-style swimming in a saltwater aquarium. In a practical setup, it’s most at home in tanks with established live rock that provide grazing opportunities and ample open water for it to move around. Because angelfish are known for occasional nipping, this fish is typically chosen for fish-only systems or carefully managed mixed tanks rather than fully coral-focused reefs.
Features:
- A bold, color-patterned angelfish that can look even more pronounced as it matures
- Benefits from plenty of swimming room plus live rock for natural grazing
- Often needs a varied diet to stay accustomed and maintain good condition
- Feeds best on quality frozen foods, sponge-based formulas, and algae offered several times daily
- May pick at corals and clam mantles—reef compatibility is a key consideration
- Best stocked with caution: keeping one angelfish per tank is usually recommended unless the system is very large
- Arrives ready to settle—slow acclimation and a quiet spot can help it transition stress-free
