Scopas Tang (Zebrasoma scopas)
Also known as the Brown Scopas Tang

The Scopas Tang displays a subtle yet elegant coloration, with a yellowish tone near the dorsal region that transitions into rich brown toward the ventral side and tail. The coloration darkens from head to tail, and the body is adorned with fine, intricate light blue markings. Its tail is solid brown. Juveniles tend to be more colorful, often exhibiting slightly purplish hues and larger, more pronounced dorsal and anal fins.

A 125-gallon or larger aquarium is recommended to provide ample swimming space for this active species. While the Scopas Tang is generally hardy and reef-safe, it can be aggressive toward other tangs or similar-shaped fish. For this reason, it is best housed singly unless introduced into a large system with ample space and hiding places.

Although they will accept meaty foods offered to other tank inhabitants, Scopas Tangs require a diet rich in marine-based seaweed and algae to thrive. A herbivore-focused diet strengthens the immune system, minimizes aggression, and supports overall health. Feed dried seaweed attached to a rock or veggie clip at least three times per week. Products like Sea Veggies, Seaweed Salad, and Ocean Nutrition are excellent and easy to use.

With proper care and diet, the Scopas Tang makes a hardy and attractive addition to larger reef or fish-only aquariums.
